Invisalign Clear Braces
Having a straight smile is a benefit to patients’ self-confidence and oral health. Properly aligned teeth are simpler to keep clean and to restore. Additionally, having a straight smile often means a healthier bite and more ideal jaw function.
Adult Orthodontic Treatment
While braces are often associated with children and teens, adults can also benefit from orthodontic treatment. In our Mount Annan dental clinic, we provide a discreet alternative to bracket and wire dentistry using Invisalign clear braces.
Invisalign makes orthodontics easier by utilising a series of clear plastic aligners that look similar to teeth whitening trays to move teeth gradually. Each set of aligners makes small adjustments to the teeth. Since the aligners are completely clear, most people will not notice them when you speak or smile.
In some cases, small tooth-coloured buttons will be applied to the teeth to assist the movement. These are barely noticeable and will be removed after treatment.
How to Get Started with Invisalign
A full orthodontic evaluation with one of our dentists will determine if Invisalign will work to help you meet your goals for your smile. Clear braces work for most orthodontic conditions including overbites, underbites and gaps between teeth.
For complex, bite-related cases, and for children, traditional orthodontics may be more effective. We can recommend a local orthodontist that would be better suited to your needs.
Once you decide to proceed, our professional dental clinicians will gather a few necessary details to pass along to the Invisalign laboratory.
- Digital x-rays
- Photos of the face, head and profile
- Impressions and moulds of the teeth
- Treatment plan provided by your dentist
How to Use Invisalign Clear Aligners
Once we receive your initial series of aligners, our dentists will ensure a comfortable fit. Since they are smooth, most patients find them much easier to use than braces.
We typically advise patients to wear each set of aligners for two weeks and then switch to the next in the series. Wearing aligners for at least 22 hours per day will keep treatment on schedule. Patients can remove aligners to eat and clean the teeth.
Because aligners are removable, patients find home hygiene much more convenient. It is essential to clean teeth after eating to prevent cavities from developing due to food particles becoming trapped between the aligner and teeth. Carrying a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste with you will help remind you to look after your smile.
Since pets love things that smell like their owners, keeping aligners away from your furry friends will keep them safe. It’s also necessary to avoid extreme heat, which can warp the aligners, rendering them unusable.
