Emergency Dentistry

Dental emergencies tend to occur on their own time, and if you do not have a Mount Annan emergency dentist, the situation could become stressful quickly. At Toothsavers Dentists, we reserve time each day to treat dental emergencies as promptly as possible. We never want patients to live with pain any longer than necessary.

When Is Tooth Pain a Dental Emergency?

Because the teeth’s nerves are located deep inside the root, most dental conditions do not become painful until they are advanced, so any time pain is present, it’s best to have it checked by your dentist.

Our dentists treat a wide variety of dental emergencies with same-day treatment. Some of the most common conditions include:

  • Broken teeth or crowns
  • Lost or damaged fillings
  • Swelling and pain near the tooth, jaw or face
  • Toothache or generalised pain
  • Avulsed (knocked-out) tooth
  • Trauma due to sporting or auto accidents
  • Discolouration of the tooth

When pain is present, symptoms may come on gradually, worsening with time, or they can come and go. Either way, dental pain rarely resolves entirely on its own and usually requires professional attention.

Emergency Dental Appointments

If you are a new patient, we will gather some information about your medical and dental history, so that we may provide you with appropriate treatment. We know this can be a traumatic time, but you can rest assured that our entire dental team will look after you during your visit with us.

An x-ray will assist the dentist in making an accurate diagnosis. Once the dentist determines the cause of the dental emergency, they will go over all of the treatment options available to you.

In some cases, we will be able to complete your treatment in a single visit. In others, such as with a dental crown or root canal, a follow-up appointment might be necessary.

If you are new to our dental practice, we will invite you back at a later time for a full oral evaluation to rule out any underlying conditions that might result in additional dental emergencies.

How to Avoid Dental Emergencies

The best way to keep the mouth healthy and comfortable is to follow your dentist's recommended check-up and clean appointments. It is at these active maintenance visits that routine x-rays and an exam from the dentist will identify oral health issues before they become a dental emergency. It's also a good idea to wear a sports guard to protect your teeth. We create custom mouth guards to keep an accident from ruining the big game.

If you notice that something has changed with your oral health, and you are not yet certain that it requires a dental emergency appointment, we invite you to give our Mount Annan dental clinic a call. We provide reliable and gentle emergency dentistry to the communities of Narellan Vale, Blairmount, Currans Hill and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
